The Burning Fiery Furnace
12 May 2014 @ 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM
$25 – $50
The Atlantic Arts Foundation, with the artistic collaboration of Harlem Opera Theater,
presents Benjamin Britten’s The Burning Fiery Furnace
One of Britten’s famed “Parables for Church Performance,” this one-hour opera in English will be performed by an all male African-American cast in the gothic revival splendor of Harlem’s Church of the Intercession.
Mélanie will be performing this Britten’s parabole church written in a chamber music set up (without conductor) for trombone, french horn, flute, viola, double bass, harp and percussion with the Sugar Hill Ensemble. As specified in the Britten’s score, the instrumentists will be performing on stage -among the singers- wearing Monk costumes!
Mélanie will also make her Celtic harp debut in a surprising procession in the middle of the piece. Check it out!
