Harpe Porte à Porte every Friday @ Sharp Memorial San Diego, CA
January 1 @ 8:00 AM - December 31 @ 5:00 PM
Since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, concert halls have remained closed in New York and most of the world. However, our need for comfort through music has never been greater. Through her partnership with Project Music Heals Us Mélanie is able to continue her project Harpe Porte à Porte online at the Sharp Memorial Hospital in San Diego, California. Every Friday afternoon Mélanie interacts live with individual patients. The experience is streamed through an Ipad, which is sanitized and brought into the patient’s room by nurses following a strict safety protocol. Mélanie then proceeds to relax the patient and plays soothing music to bring comfort and allow the patient to escape to a place of their own, a place of relief through the senses. Mélanie plays for COVID, Oncology and Palliative care patients. Musical selection includes solo harp pieces by Bach, Debussy, Handel and Mélanie’s own arrangements of contemporary classics such as Over the Rainbow, Blackbird, La Vie en Rose, to connect with a broad audience. Harpe Porte à Porte means “Harp Door to Door”. Mélanie started this art therapy project in 2016.
